Classic GCR coaches. With their American appearence these coaches were built in 1910/11, primarily for excursion traffic.

Classic GCR coaches. Introduced from 1911,for mainline use. Matchboarded sides up to windows. Some had matchboarded ends, some planked and some plain steel.

Ex GCR Steam Railmotor pushpull trailer coach


The GCR introduced steam railmotors in 1904. By 1922, their unpopularity led to them being withdrawn, and the coach parts were converted into trailers. By1931 they were paired with ex LDECR 6 wheel coaches and in 1933 these were replaced with ex London suburban coaches, converted from all 1st class to composites with a brake compartment replacing one end compartment. 
Ex GCR C13 4-4-2T locos were adapted for pushpull and used with these coaches in South Manchester area up till end of 1950s. 
C13 pushpull locos were also used on the Chalfont to Chesham branchline with ex Metropolitan stock until line was electrified at end of 1950s.

Ex GCR London Suburban composite brake coach(pp converted).

Ex GCR railmotor trailer pushpull converted coach


The railmotor trailers were converted into pushpull coaches and used with the same ex London suburban coach conversion as well as a clerestory baggage composite coach.

Baggage Composite originally built in 1903/4/5 for London Extension Expresses. Later converted for pushpull servce in manchester area, surviving into 1950s.

GCR/M&SLR Directors' Saloon, No 1033,

built 1890 at Gorton.

In its later years the saloon ended up as the District Engineer, Edinburgh Inspection Carriage No. SC 970113E. Following accident damage in 1968, it was severe enough to result in its withdrawal. It had previously been hoped to save it for preservation, but the coach was scrapped.
